The 428 CI Cobra Jet Shelby Mustang was rescued after 43 years sitting in storage so it could stretch its legs again.

Automotive’s newest YouTuber Dennis Collins classic car The rescue involved a highly sought after 1968 Ford Shelby Mustang GT500KR, his 9th Shelby acquisition in 2022.

Another Ford Shelby Mustang GT500KR Rescue With Collins

Unlike many of Collins’ other rescues of Shelby, this one was straightforward. The Shelby Mustang GT500KR, previously stored in a garage for 43 years, sits in the seller’s driveway, ready for a new home.

Its dirty original Candy Apple Red exterior gave Collins the idea to restore it to “survivor style.” Perhaps the biggest obstacles to getting this car back on the road are the empty engine bay and the disassembled R-Code 428 Cobra Jet V8.

But a solid body and a comprehensive list of options (including power steering, power brakes, and dual exhausts) make this Mustang “the most desirable Shelby of 1968,” according to Collins.

Following a quick takedown of his target, Collins makes a side trip to Jeff’s Resurrections, a well-known auto restoration company based in Taylor. He pays Jeff Snyder a finder’s fee for his help in finding the 1968 Ford Shelby Mustang and exploring the project in Snyder’s shop. The business specializes in detailed restorations averaging 500 to 1,000 hours of work, with a particular focus on Jaguar E-Types.

Collins peeled back a cover to reveal a 1967 Shelby GT500 that could pass for a factory-fresh vehicle. There’s a 1932 Packard spending time in the paint booth, and viewers can also see a C1 Chevy Corvette in the background.

In the final minutes of the video, viewers get an update on an extremely rare 1968 Shelby GT500KR that we covered last month. While the car appeared in decent shape during its salvage in Arizona, Collins discovered that a respray of the Acapulco Blue exterior was necessary. The result is a sparkling classic that benefits from even panel spacing and excellent running condition.

There’s also another Shelby update, with Collins featuring the 1968 Shelby GT350 convertible he recently acquired from Richard Rawlings. Its body style and Raven Black color give the car 1-of-79 status for this model year, but this Shelby is only one of ten examples used by Playboy Enterprises.
