A new one Thunders fan trailer sees Harrison Ford assemble the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe supervillain team. Marvel Studios is still entering the Multiverse Saga, with the next Phase starting in 2023. While variants and alternate realities continue to be a big focus in the MCU, new teams are bringing the franchise to life. After years of hinting at it, the Thunderbolts are getting their own MCU movie, but centered around a very different team. Thunders won’t come until the end of Phase Five, but the greenlit project is one of the bigger news releases for Marvel Studios in 2022.
While filming has yet to begin, fans are already wondering what the MCU will look like with Thunderbolts. What to Expect From the MCU’s Thunderbolts Movie
As with most MCU movies, details about the Thunders the film was kept very secret. However, Marvel Studios has confirmed the line-up of characters starring in the ensemble movie. Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ Valentina Allegra de Fontaine will play a major role in the Thunderbolts team, continuing her arc from previous appearances. Thunders also starring Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes, and David Harbor as the Red Guardian; these three are made up of morally gray team heroes. Previous villains also aboard the film include Hannah John-Kamen as Ghost, Wyatt Russell as US Agent, and Olga Kurylenko as Taskmaster.
Captain America: New World Order is recasting a major MCU player with Ford stepping in for the late William Hurt as the new Thunderbolt Ross. He would first appear in the film starring Anthony Mackie before returning two months later Thunders. Ross has a huge connection to the team in the comics, and many speculated that he might finally get his Red Hulk form in the movie. However, whether this will happen remains to be seen. Whether other MCU villains or antiheroes will appear Thundersthat is not yet clear.
Thunders is seen as the MCU’s own version of Suicide Squad, as it allows the franchise to tap into darker territories. Jake Schreier directs, while Black Widow writer Eric Pearson is writing the script. Because of Pearson’s involvement, Thunders will probably have a similar tone to Black Widow film in some capacity. Given the deeper themes that come with the Thunderbolts, it will be intriguing to see how the MCU tackles this particular team and how they work together.
