The magic of copypasta between your desktop and your phone
Scrcpy (that’s “screen copy” to you and me) is a great tool for those who want to interact with and record images from their Android devices via the Android Debug Bridge protocol on their menu options. But the latest version is best for those who own Android 13 and want to copy and paste text and images from it to their desktop.
Simply put, Android 13 has changed its signature when accessing an object’s clipboard. Scrcpy needs to change how it calls that entry. The bug was first reported in mid-September with a Pixel 6 Pro running QPR Beta 1 (now the December Pixel Drop), so this fix is a few weeks in the making, especially for the versatility of two-way copying and printing.
The full version itself, however, has been around for a while with v1.24 coming out in April. Other items in the changelog (via XDA-Developers) include new menu shortcuts for Linux users, an update to the latest version of the ADB platform tools for Windows, which fixes when non-ASCII characters appear in the title bar of the window, and some things. others.
We last covered scrcpy in June of 2021 when it lost one of its sneakier features, the ability to match firewalls to apps with DRM or other restrictions such as passcodes.
We think it’s worth the download, even if it wasn’t for leaking information between apps and apps in malicious ways you wouldn’t expect.
