Hollywood legend Harrison Ford will soon join the Marvel Cinematic Universe, taking over as General Thaddeus ‘Thunderbolt’ Ross following the death of William Hurt. Ford’s addition to the wildly popular comic book movie franchise came as a big surprise when it was confirmed earlier this year, and the Star Wars and Indiana Jones star has now explained why he wants to add his name to the Marvel roster.
“Hey, look, I’ve done a lot. I now want to do some of the things I have never done.”
Expected to debut as Thunderbolt Ross Captain America: New World Orderset to air on May 3, 2024, Ford will join the likes of Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan), Ghost (Hannah John-Kamen), US Agent (Wyatt Russell), Valentina Allegra de Fontaine (Julia Louis-Dreyfus), Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh), Red Guardian (David Harbour), and Taskmaster (Olga Kurylenko) in Thunderswith Thaddeus Ross in charge of this rag-tag team of superheroes and villains.
But what is it that joining the MCU will allow Ford to do that he hasn’t done before? He must have ordered people around then. He has starred in big tentpole projects before. Could he be referring to starring in a comic book movie? Or is it possible that Ford’s Thaddeus Ross will actually transform into the Red Hulk in Thundersthe first time the actor performed a motion capture performance?
Asked by The Playlist if that was the case, Ford kept his cards close to his chest, smiling and making a “zipped-lips” gesture. Certainly, the idea of Harrison Ford transforming into the Red Hulk is a very exciting one. But we’ll just have to wait and see if such Marvel dreams come true.
Thunderbolts Hits Theaters in 2024
While the details of Thunders will remain under wraps for now, a piece of artwork from D23 has revealed who will make up the titular team. A team that can be sent to fight Thaddeus Ross’s Red Hulk. Maybe.
Black Widow Star David Harbor will reprise his role as Alexei Shostakov aka Red Guardian in the MCU outing, with the actor describing the film as a mix of drama and comedy. “I think they’re all poor people who all have a lot of weaknesses,” he explained. “As you know, as I certainly do, when you put together a group of people with different weaknesses, there’s often drama and comedy.”
Directed by Jake Schreier, filming in Thunders is expected to begin early next year before airing on July 26, 2024. Thunders will form part of Phase 5 of the Marvel Cinematic, which will begin on Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. Scheduled for release on February 17, 2023, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania finds Scott Lang and Hope van Dyne, along with Hope’s parents Hank Pym and Janet van Dyne and Lang’s daughter Cassie, absorbed into the Quantum Realm and pitted against Kang the Conqueror.
Along with the rest of the episode Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 on May 5, 2023 and The miracles on July 28, 2023, as well as the MCU Blade reboot.
