There are around 360 athletics tracks in the UK. These range from state-of-the-art, lottery-funded stadiums to free-to-use cinder tracks. Most of the Olympic standard is 400m in circumference, but other distances can be found – including 200m, 300m and even, Regent’s Parks Iconic Oval, 386.8m. All of them have their own unique charm. Trying to find a running track near you can be daunting, however, so we’ve rounded up 9 of the best tracks from across the UK to help.

The track gets points for its accessibility: it’s open seven days a week and access is pay-as-you-go. So if you’re new to track running, it’s the perfect place to earn your stripes (or should that be spikes?).
