Tata Motors is about to launch an electric version of its popular Punch micro-SUV.
Business strategy
This comes after the successful launch of the Tiago EV in early September.
The strategy is simple – to maintain its dominance in the EV space.
It currently enjoys the view from the top with Nexon EV and Tigor EV occupying more than 80% market share.
After the Electric Punch is launched in 2023, the automaker will have a total of 4 EVs in its portfolio, each type catering to different segments.
Punch EV- Moderate
It will be between Tigor EV and Nexon EV Prime.
Like other Tata EVs, the Punch EV will continue to use Ziptron powertrains.
It will come with two battery pack options, medium and long term.
For an intermediate EV, the power output and range can be similar to the Tigor EV with a 26-kWh battery, combined with a 75 PS electric motor.
The torque output is 170 Nm.
Punch EV- Distance
It will match the specs of the Nexon EV Prime with a 30.2 kWh battery that sends power to a 129 PS electric motor.
Torque output at 245 Nm.
The hardware configuration is also expected to be similar to the adaptive brake and IP67 dust-proof battery pack.

The Punch EV will be the first electric vehicle based on Tata’s ALFA platform.
The first car to use it was Altroz.
ALFA offers versatility, with the ability to support a variety of body styles and powertrains, including electrics.
Users can expect better driving dynamics compared to other Tata EVs.
Features, specs
The exterior will be updated to match the signature style seen on other Tata electric cars.
The interior will have lighter colors with signature blue highlights on the AC vents and blue on the seats.
The top-spec model may get leather upholstery.

- Electric ORVM with automatic folding and full digital control

- Car location tracking

The security suite will include features such as:
- Dual airbags ABS with EBD
- Tire pressure monitoring system
- Camera-based reverse parking assist
- Dynamic direction
