Sensex snaps 4-day loss, ends 721 pts up;  Nifty retreated 18,000

The S&P BSE Sensex hit a low of 59,754 in opening trade, but soon recovered and rose higher for most of the trading session. The BSE index was at a high of 60,834 – up 1,080 points from the day’s low. Although cutting some benefits at the fag end of the day, Sensex finished 721 points higher than 60,566 points. In the process, the Sensex snapped its four-day losing streak, with the BSE benchmark falling 1,961 points.

Yes NSE Nifty 50 Collected 310 points in intraday trading, and finally settled with an increase of 208 points, thus regaining 18,000 points.

SBI and IndusInd Bank were the top gainers among the Sensex 30, rising 4 percent each. Bajaj Finserv, Tata Steel, ITC, Axis Bank, HDFC Bank, Ultra Tech Cement, NTPC and Tata Motors were the other major gainers, up 2 – 3 percent each. On the other hand, Nestle India fell by more than a percent.

The broader market fared better in today’s trade – the BSE Midcap gained 2.3 percent, while the Smallcap index gained 3.1 percent. The overall breadth was extremely positive, with 2,877 stocks advancing against 760 stocks falling on the BSE.


Radiant cash management service The IPO was subscribed to only 10 percent at 15:45 on the 2nd day of the offer period. Public sale closes on Tuesday.
