New Delhi: A Finnish telecom gear maker intends to support India’s participation in the development of 6G or 6G technology standards in the coming years, even as the country expects to have 5G pan-India coverage by 2023-24.
“We reaffirm our commitment to enable our partners to achieve rapid 5G deployment – possibly the fastest rollout in the world,” a Nokia India spokesperson said in a statement on Wednesday.
India’s leading telecom operators – Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel – started rolling out their 5G services from October 1, and plan to cover the country with their 5G networks based on standalone (SA) and non-standalone (NSA) architectures respectively. 2023-24.

By 2023, Nokia India said it expects continued support from the government in enabling the digital ecosystem to tap into the benefits of 5G technology.

Infosys, Capgemini, GMR, Larsen & Toubro, Tata Communications, Tata Power and Tejas Networks are among more than 20 companies that have applied for direct allocation of 5G spectrum to set up private communications networks.
Ricky Corker, Head of Customer Experience at Nokia, told ETTelecom earlier that the first private network based on 5G will be live in India within two quarters.
Notably, Airtel with Tech Mahindra recently deployed a private 5G network at Mahindra & Mahindra’s Chakan manufacturing plant.
“We look forward to supporting India’s full and equal participation in the evolution of the 6G standard over the next few years as our R&D engineers here continue to contribute to global collaborative efforts,” the spokesperson said.
