Sure, the Bugatti Chiron Super Sport 300+ may have been faster than any other standard production car before it (it hit 304.773 mph or 490.48 km/h in 2019), but in a straight line, the 2006 Ford This GT is even faster.

The Ford GT you’re looking at has been owned by Johnny Bohmer since 2006 and has long been one of the fastest road-legal cars in the world. In fact, Bohmer originally bought it off the showroom floor with the intention of breaking the 300 mph (482 km/h) barrier on it. It’s gone through many iterations over the years and while it’s unclear how much power it currently has, there’s no denying that this thing is an absolute beast.

Bohmer and his team recently headed to the Launch and Landing Facility at Kennedy Space Center, Florida to test a new ECU that was recently installed in the car. The car performed so well during the tests that Bohmer decided to pin the throttle to the floor as long as he dared. When he finally lifted off, the car hit an extraordinary 310.8 mph (500.1 km/h). This makes it the fastest road-legal car in the world.

It’s not just some stripped-out race car, either. In fact, Bohmer’s Ford GT still has a working air conditioning system, electric windows, and a stereo. He drives it regularly near his home in Florida and even uses it to take his children to school.
