Yasin Nasser is embarking on a journey of different proportions in his rally career following the arrival of his new car in the country.
The 2019 Uganda rally champion has acquired a Ford Fiesta Rally2 from M-Sport, United Kingdom. This is the first latest version of Ford rally2 in Africa.
“Since the R5 cars took off in the region, it was very clear that the R5s were the future. From there I started dreaming of getting one. But, this time we didn’t want a used car. After a few consultation, Ford was the best choice and had the latest version of the R5. So having it is a dream come true, Nasser said excitedly.
While Uganda’s top drivers go for the Proto models, Nasser explains why he went for a proper Rally2 car.
“Proto cars are consistently good, affordable and fast but our ambitions at the moment are beyond what Protos has to offer as it is limited to national championships,” said Nasser.
Nasser will dedicate the next year to the Africa rally championship. After taking over the ARC2 class in 2021 the bigger crown is now the target.
“Honestly, we want to try the ARC title. Last season we had our own experience in the ARC and clearly needed a stronger car to compete well. So, the car will be used for ARC and some national events,” he said.
Nasser will also compete in selected Uganda rally championship events in 2023.
He spent most of 2022 competing in Tanzania’s championship.
Next year is sure to be a busy one for the Moil-sponsored driver.
