We already know that the C8-generation Corvette Z06 is a rare car, America’s take on the glory days of naturally-aspirated, mid-engined Ferraris in Corvette prices and production numbers. We also know that the outgoing Ford GT is a beast of a car in its own right, worthy of its famous name. They take a different approach to performance, with the Corvette packing the punch of a very special naturally-aspirated engine into a more common car while the GT puts a less adventurous turbocharged six-cylinder into a rare and special chassis. But which is faster?

In a rolling drag race conducted as part of YouTube channel comparison analysis Throttle Housethe GT side still looks narrow. The more specialized Ford is ahead early and holds a small lead throughout, thanks in no small part to a weight advantage.

The comparison test also included some track time with both cars, highlighting the different approaches Ford and GM have taken to what are currently their ultimate performance cars. Both were also benchmarked against the Ferrari 458 Speciale, the very special naturally-aspirated V-8 Ferrari swan song that drew so many comparisons to the latest Z06.

In all of this, the Corvette has a distinct advantage: while the Ferrari is a very special thing, it was produced only from 2013 to 2015. The ultra-limited Ford GT will go out of production at the end of this year. The Z06 is just beginning production, and production numbers for past generations of the Z06 suggest that, by supercar standards, the cars will be mediocre. While the performance may be similar to other cars on the market, Chevrolet’s ability to bring that performance to something resembling mass production is the real deal.
