The Dodge Charger state patrol vehicle has no problem chasing fast muscle cars but this time he won’t be ticketed.
What do cops do when they’re not running into bad guys or involved in high-speed highway chases? Apparently, they still want a good chase. Only at this time, the particular state patrol car, a Dodge Charger, chasing a Ford Drag strip legal Mustang GT.
Will the police car come first or the Ford Mustang GT get away with the charge? Let’s find out in this awesome drag-racing video, brought to you by YouTube channel Wheels. Most might expect the amped-up state patrol car to take the lead but the Mustang may still have a few tricks up its sleeve.
Two Detroit Muscle Cars Go Head-To-Head
Powered by a 5.0-liter Coyote V8 Engine, the Ford Mustang GT unleashes explosive power, producing 450 hp and 410 lb-ft of torque. Compared to this, the Dodge Charger comes with a 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 engine or a 5.7-liter HEMI V8 with 300 hp and 264 lb-ft for the V6 or 370 hp and 395 lb-ft for the HEMI. That said, the cop car variant of Dodge Charger may have some changes in the power increase, but there is no information that says otherwise in the video.
The Battle Of The Muscles: Dodge Charger Vs. Ford Mustang GT
Both cars rev up with impressive revs and squeals as the light turns green. The cars shot to the starting point, and it looked like it was going to be another high-speed chase, with the Charger slightly behind the iconic Ford Mustang. Just as the police car looked like it had won, the Mustang GT sped off, eventually reaching the quarter-mile finish line in 14.422 seconds at a top speed of 99.20 mph, certainly not a record-breaker for a Mustang GT .
The police car managed a decent time of 17.104 seconds, at a top speed of 84.32 mph. Again, not the fastest for a Dodge Charger, or any state patrol car. Fans in the comments joked that the Charger should have busted the Mustang for the missing taillight. With such poor performance, it’s likely that the police car has a base V6 engine.
As one comment read, the only place a Dodge Charger can beat a Mustang GT is in NFS, aka the make-believe world of Need For Speed. Anywhere else the Mustang GT is still the boss. Also catch the second race, where a quad-bike overtakes a Ford Police Interceptor. With that in mind, it looks like cops need to up their game when it comes to their patrol vehicles.
