PAXTON — Various locations in Ford County — including Gibson City, Kempton, Melvin, Paxton, Piper City and Roberts — are available as warming centers this winter.
The Ford County Emergency Management Agency released a list of warming centers Thursday as a major winter storm approaches.
Manned 24/7 will be the warming center at the Paxton Emergency Response Service station at 134 W. State St. Everything else will be unmanned, according to EMA coordinator Terry Whitebird.
The following is a list of warming centers:
Gibson City
— Moyer District Library, 618 S. Sangamon Ave. (during business hours).
— Gibson City Hall, 101 E. 8th St. (during business hours).
— Gibson City firehouse, 115 S. Lawrence St. (call Terry Whitebird at 217-781-1898 or 815-644-1410 before arriving).
— Gibson Bible Church, 309 N. Illinois 47 (call Jonah Wilson at 217-784-5702 before coming).
Kempton
— Kempton American Legion/Kempton firehouse (call Don English at 815-674-0430 before arriving).
Melvin
— Melvin Community Center, 108 E. Main St. (call Larry Bounty at 217-249-2308 before arriving).
Paxton
— Paxton Emergency Response Service station, 134 W. State St. (call Ed Hanson at 217-202-6441 before arriving).
City of Piper
— Piper City Community Center, 64 Peoria St. (call Terry Whitebird at 217-781-1898 or 815-644-1410 before arriving).
Roberts
— Robert’s Gym (call Margie Rock at 309-830-8318 before arriving).
