summary
Defra has awarded £2 million to Movi Scotland Limited to purchase equipment that will rapidly process fish and improve the shipping of their premium salmon. This is part of a wider project to expand and modernize their aquaculture processing facility.
The project will:
- Increase throughput from 65,000 tons to at least 95,000 tons per year.

HSH Cold Stores Limited
Location: Grimsby, England
Prize Amount: £5,000,000.00
summary
Defra has awarded £5m to HSH Cold Stores Limited as part of a £33m refrigeration and logistics project of 32,700 pallet spaces.
Due to the lack of major expansion of cold storage in the area, some processors in Grimsby rely on cold storage in Peterborough and the Midlands. The hub will have a positive impact on the supply chain by reducing the cost of local food production and transportation, which also reduces fuel consumption.
The project will:
- Enable a 70% reduction in energy per pallet area of existing refrigerators.
- Directly provide over 60 new high quality full-time jobs and enable the expansion of the seafood processing sector.

This is part of a £30 million strategic development to increase the production and freezing of top quality mackerel and herring landed in Peterhead.
The project will:
- Increase the processing and production capacity of mackerel by five tons per year.
- Increase freezing and packaging capacity by 340 tons (74%) per day to 800 tons per day.
- Increase the on-site cold storage to stop the transfer of fish to and from Dundee, removing a total of 11,322 miles or 10,972 kwh of energy loss.

- Expand JCS Fish Limited’s salmon and trout processing capacity from the current 10 tons to 20 tons per day.
- It is estimated that it will create 32 direct and 80 indirect jobs in the impoverished region
- Achieve energy savings in the region of 30% despite being a larger site, which equates to a 30-40% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions.
- Reduce the UK’s dependence on imported salmon.

Location: Shoreham, England
Prize amount: £532,912.86
summary
Defra has awarded over £500,000 to transform the Dry Dock into a modern facility to provide essential maintenance services to the local fishing fleet for future generations. The project will:
- Reduce the maintenance time for the fishing fleet in Shoreham.
- Increase the safety and environmental performance of the dry dock by removing or replacing end-of-life assets and undertaking repairs. This will improve safety and ensure dry docking is available for vessel crew, owners and their contractors.
- Make a total energy saving of 65%.
