Germany will send more weapons to Ukraine’s armed forces, the country’s new ambassador to Berlin said.
The pledge for more ammunition and weapons came in “direct talks,” Ambassador Oleksiy Makejev told German newspaper Welt am Sonntag in an interview. Ukraine is seeking air defense systems, automatic howitzers, anti-aircraft gun tanks and ammunition from Germany.
President Volodymyr Zelensky said more than 1.5 million people in the Odessa region lost power after a Russian strike with Iranian-made drones on Saturday night.

UK shrewd says Putin signal not sincere for talks (9:30 am)
UK Foreign Secretary James Chaturai said Vladimir Putin’s recent comments did not signal the prospect of peace talks.
“I’m not really seeing anything from the Russian side that gives me confidence that Vladimir Putin is entering these negotiations in good faith,” he said in an interview with Sky News. “The broad rhetoric is still confrontational.”
He said the peace talks could not be a “fig leaf for Russian rearmament and further recruitment of troops”. Cleverly also reiterated the UK’s position that any talks must be “realistic and meaningful” but that Ukraine would have to decide on the terms of any negotiated settlement.
Ukraine ready for German weapons delivery (7:00 am)
Ukraine will take delivery of more German weapons, the country’s new ambassador to Berlin said in an interview.
“In direct talks, we were promised that we would get more weapons and more ammunition,” Ambassador Oleksiy Makajev told German newspaper Welt am Sonntag in an interview.
Ukraine is seeking air defense systems, automatic howitzers, anti-aircraft gun tanks and ammunition from Germany. Additionally, discussions are ongoing on the delivery of Marder and Cheetah tanks, the newspaper reports.
Ukrainian troops fight back against Russian attacks (6:00 am)
According to the daily update of the General Staff of the Army of Ukraine, Ukrainian troops repelled Russian attacks in the areas of 11 settlements in the Luhansk and Donetsk regions, including Bakhmut.
Russian forces launched three missile and 17 air strikes, as well as 60 multiple-launch rocket system strikes.
Over 1.5 million lose power in Odessa area (10:38 p.m.)
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said more than 1.5 million people in the Odessa region were without electricity after a Russian attack with an Iranian-made drone.
“Unfortunately the hit was severe, so it takes more than just time to restore electricity,” he said in his nightly video address, “not hours, but days. The power system is now, to put it mildly, far from normal.” is
Kyiv and eight regions, from Lviv in the west to Sumy in the northeast, have the most widespread blackouts, Zelensky said. “Energy facilities get hit almost every day,” he said.
Ukraine urges Red Cross to help prisoners of war (5:20 pm)
Zelensky’s chief of staff Andriy Yermak met with Mirjana Spoljaric Eger, president of the International Committee of the Red Cross, in Kyiv.
He urged the Red Cross to help ensure the rights of Ukrainian prisoners of war, to ensure that they are provided with medical aid and to make every effort to ensure that the Russians “stop using coercive methods of influence on occupied Ukrainians.”
Yermak was accompanied by relatives of prisoners of war captured by Russia during its invasion of Ukraine, the presidential office said in a statement.
