A United Kingdom-based doctor, Christina Umolu, has accused officials of the Abuja Metropolitan Management Council of demolishing her property at Plot 34, Phase AA3, behind NNPC in Kuje in the Federal Capital Territory.
Punch Metro It was gathered that Umolu bought the property in 1993 and was granted occupancy rights for the land by the Cadastral Section of Land Survey, Abuja, Federal Capital Development Authority.
The doctor said she built a private health facility, the Leh-Jada-Joseph Clinic, on the land, adding that sometime in 2020, one Juliet, started claiming ownership of the land.
To determine the rightful owner of the land, Umolu said the matter was charged to the Federal Capital Territory High Court.
She, however, explained that without a final declaration by the court, officers of the agency stormed her medical centre, evicted her workers from the premises, vandalized her property and destroyed medical equipment worth N600m.
Umolu said, “I bought the land in 1993 and I was given all the official documents including my occupancy right. They allotted me plot number 34 and since then I was running my medical outfit there. But in 2020, a woman named Juliet comes and says she owns the land.
“At the time, I was not in the country, but the case was taken to court and not declared when I suddenly heard that the Development Control Department under the Abuja Metropolitan Management Council demolished my property, chased all my doctors. and destroyed nurses as well as equipment worth over N600m.
“I came to Nigeria to contest my land, presented all my documents to AMMC and we found out that Juliet’s property was plot 64 and 34 no. AMMC erred in not checking their books properly or doing a thorough check before pulling them down. My property.”
Umolu said that before the demolition took place, the agency gave him a demolition order, adding that despite presenting the necessary documents to the agency to validate his claim, its officials still proceeded to demolish the property.
The aggrieved doctor urged Federal Capital Territory Minister Mohammed Bello to intervene in the matter, adding that his property was demolished unjustly and without due process.
She said, “When the agency realized that it had made a mistake in demolishing my property, its officials called me to produce all my documents and said they would make me happy.
“But I beckon the honorable office in the capacity of the Federal Capital Territory Minister, Mohammed Bello, to intervene and order the reporting office, for obstructing the course of justice with their alleged complicity as a pending subject asylum. The claimant, in favor of Juliet Azok, is yet to be supported by a pronounced judgment and a valid court order, as their continued breach or actions amount to contempt of court.”
