That same afternoon two 16-year-old boys died after being stabbed a mile apart, police said.
The teenagers were attacked in Sewell Road, Abbey Wood and Titmuss Avenue in Thamesmead, south-east London.
The Metropolitan Police were called at around 5.10pm on Saturday to reports of people injured at both locations.
Both the youths have been declared dead and a murder investigation has been started.
Given the closeness of time and distance between the incidents, authorities are trying to establish any link between the two deaths, police said. Both locations have crime scenes.
The Section 60 order, which gives officers additional search powers, is in force until 8am on Sunday.
Police are appealing for anyone with information to contact them by calling 101 and quoting reference 4943/26NOV. Information can also be provided anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
The next of kin of the two boys will be assisted by specialist officers.
