Twelve employers from across Wales were recognized for the outstanding support they provide to the armed forces community at an awards ceremony held at Hensol Castle on 1 December.
The glittering awards evening began with a drinks reception with guests accompanied by music provided by the Royal Air Force Salon Orchestra.
The emcee of the evening was Sian Lloyd, with a welcome speech by Hannah Blythyn MS Deputy Minister for Social Partnerships.
The Wales recipients were: Admiral Group plc, Cardiff County Council, Denbighshire County Council, Aber Foundation CIC, Hugh James, North Wales Fire and Rescue Service, Pro Steel Engineering Ltd, Rubicon Facility Management Ltd, Vale of Glamorgan Council, Veterans Award CIC, Woody’s Lodge and Wrexham County Borough Council.
The awards were presented jointly by Rear Admiral Jude Terry OBE, Brigadier Andrew Dawes CBE, Commander 160th (Welsh) Brigade, Brigadier Jock Fraser MBE ADC Royal Marines and Air Officer Wales, Air Commodore Adrian Williams OBE.
The keynote speech was given by Rear Admiral Judd Terry OBE – the first female Admiral of the Royal Navy. Guests also heard from @614 Squadron RXAF (Royal Auxiliary Air Force) Air Specialist 1 Malembe Makwa, who spoke about what inspired him to join the RAF Reserves.
Awarded by the Ministry of Defence, the Employer Recognition Scheme formally recognizes organizations that serve and support the armed forces, veterans and their families. 156 organizations across the UK received the Gold Award this year.
To win the Gold Award, organizations must provide 10 additional paid days off for reservists and have supportive HR policies in place for veterans, adult volunteers in the reserves and cadet forces, as well as spouses and partners of people serving in the armed forces.
Organizations should also advocate the benefits of supporting those in the Armed Forces community by encouraging others to sign the Armed Forces Agreement and join the Employer Recognition Scheme.

The Employer Recognition Scheme was launched in 2014 by then Prime Minister David Cameron to recognize the broad principles of Armed Forces contracting and employer support for the full spectrum of defense personnel. This includes reservists, deserters, cadets, spouses and the wounded, injured and sick.
