Lexington, Ky. – Three Wildcats have been announced as 2022 NCAA Division I Men’s All-Americans by United soccer coaches on Friday. Eythor Bjorgolfsson, Luis Grassow and Casper Mols all received first-team recognition.
Bjorgolfsson had an impressive career as a Wildcat, playing in 68 games with 43 starts, totaling 3,808 minutes on the pitch in his four years in Lexington. The senior has been a force to be reckoned with on offense and ranks sixth among all-time career goal scorers for the program with 24 goals. His 10 game-winning goals tied him for third overall. This season alone, Jorgulfsson scored 10 goals in the Sun Belt Conference Tournament with two assists, including a brace against Lipscomb, in-state rival Louisville, longtime rival Indiana and one against West Virginia. He had 49 shots on goal with 26 and 56 on goal to bring his UK career total to 111.
The Jesheim, Norway native earned numerous honors throughout the 2022 campaign, including Sun Belt Conference Preseason Offensive Player of the Year, Sun Belt First-Team Conference honors and Sun Belt Conference All-Tournament honors. He was named Sun Belt Offensive Player of the Week twice in September. Bjorgolfsson was also selected this week to participate in the 2022 Adidas MLS College Showcase in Raleigh, NC.
A native of Munich, Germany, Grasso received numerous recognitions during his senior career, earning Sun Belt Conference Preseason Defensive Player of the Year, Sun Belt Conference Defensive Player of the Year, Sun Belt First-Team Conference honors and Sun Belt All-Star honors. Conference All-Tournament honors. The senior captain was also named a College Sports Communicators Academic All-American for the 2022 season.
The defender has played 59 games for Kentucky, totaling 5,057 minutes on the pitch and 56 starts. He has seen a starting position in all 21 matches this season, contributing 11 clean sheets as well as seven shots with four on goal. Grasso scored three goals for the Cats this season. He tied the game at Tulsa in the season opener, hit an impressive scissor kick against WVU in the sixth minute of the game, and successfully delivered the ball into the goal against James Madison in the conference tournament championship. Throughout her Wildcat career, the senior defender has contributed to more than 20 shutouts.
Both Jorgulfsson and Grasso were named 2022 MAC Hermann Trophy semifinalists this week.
True freshman Casper Moles was the third Wildcat to be named a 2022 All-American. He was named the Sun Belt Conference Goalkeeper of the Year and was an All-Sun Belt Conference Tournament honoree after an impressive freshman season in net. Earning a starting spot early in his collegiate career, Denmark’s Aberna recorded 28 saves in 16 matches with seven clean sheets for the Cats. Moles put up strong numbers during his freshman season with an 11-1-4 record in goals with only 12 goals allowed.
This year’s All-Americans will be recognized for their achievements at the United Soccer Coaches All-America Ceremony and Reception on Saturday, January 14, 2023, at the Pennsylvania Convention Center in Philadelphia, in conjunction with the United Soccer Coaches Convention.
