Three people have been arrested after two pedestrians died in separate accidents this weekend.
The events are not connected but happened within hours of each other.
A Southampton motorist has been arrested on suspicion of drink and drug driving after a woman in her 50s was killed when she was struck by a BMW late on Saturday night.
After hitting the woman, the BMW then crashed into a parked black Ford Fiesta before driving into a nearby building.
The woman was declared dead at the scene and her next of kin were informed.
A 28-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, driving a motor vehicle with more than the alcohol limit, drink driving while unfit and driving while unfit by drugs.
A Hampshire Police spokesman said: “A gray BMW was traveling on West End High Street, heading west, when it collided with a pedestrian on the pavement at the junction with Lower New Road.
“The BMW then collided with a parked black Ford Fiesta, which then crashed into a nearby building.”
Inspector Andy Tester said: “Our thoughts are with the woman who died and her family at this difficult time.”
Bristol hit and run
In a separate incident in Bristol, two people have been arrested after a 50-year-old pedestrian was killed in a hit-and-run.
Avon and Somerset Police said the accident happened at around 1am on Sunday in Antona Drive, Shirehampton, and are appealing for witnesses.
The youth died on the spot.
A woman in her 50s and a man in his 60s have been arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving and failing to stop following a road traffic collision.
Inspector Tom Fitzpatrick said: “We are particularly appealing for a witness who is seen on CCTV crossing the road after the collision.
“We believe they have information that may assist our investigation into the incident.”
