With the recent release of The Impossible Game 2, we thought it would be a good idea to check out some of the most challenging games you can download from the Play Store.
We have toys, puzzlers, a game about climbing a mountain with a hammer, and a game where your shoes are guns. What more could you want!?!
You can click on the names of the games below to download them from the Play Store. Unless otherwise indicated, they are premium. And if you have your own idea for a challenging Android game, let us know in the comments.
An imaginative puzzle game that sees you traveling through a series of Escher-inspired levels. You can scratch your head in the right ways, and you can build your own levels. It’s free with one IAP.
A neon-hued vertical platformer with a puzzle action twist that will see you flying through the soundtrack. It’s easy to get started, but before long you’re going to be struggling to defend your argument forever. It’s free with ads and an IAP to get rid of them.
One of Nitrome’s first games, and one of his hardest. You are running through a dream, trying to get to the door and collect as many pigeons as you can along the way. Throw in some cool retro style and you’re on your way.

A good mix of stupid and tough. You are trying to climb a hill, while in a box, using a hammer to propel yourself up. It’s tough, tough and a fun bunch of teeth.
The first of two Terry Kavanagh games on this list. This is a retro-tastic metroidvania that sees you jumping over spikes and pits and trying to save the various members of your crew. It’s tough, but it’s also beautiful.
An amazing roguelike that sees you falling down a well, using your gun boots to blow up enemies below you and save yourself. It was very difficult to record, but eventually it blossomed into something truly special.
A nice challenging game that sees you controlling two colored balls. They turn to a central point, and you have to dodge your way through the obstacles. Every time you die, you leave a smear as a reminder of your failure. It’s free with IAP to disable ads.
This is all about controlling the ball and using it to break your way through a series of glass walls. Things start out easy, but soon it turns into a nightmare. It’s free with an IAP to unlock more.
A twitchy platformer that sees you tap and tap the screen to jump over ever-more complex sets of obstacles. You swear, you sweat and you clap your hands with joy when you finish a level. It’s free with IAP to unlock some coins and other bobs.
The second Terry Cavanagh game on the list. This is a nose-bleed inducing super-fast arcade experience that will leave you gasping for air. Even after this time, it is one of the best games on the Play Store.
