BOSTON — The Boston Bruins’ 14-game home winning streak ended with a 4-3 loss to the Vegas Golden Knights at TD Garden on Monday.
Brad Marchand a goal and help, a Jeremy Swayman made 21 saves for the Bruins (20-3-1), who combined for three straight goals.
Their 14-game home winning streak to start the season is an NHL record.
“That’s probably the way our streak ends,” the Boston forward said Taylor Hale said. “We fought, we did everything we could to try and win the game, and in the end a good team beat us.”

It was Golden Knights coach Bruce Cassidy’s first game against Boston since he was fired by the Bruins on June 6 after six seasons. He was honored with a video tribute for the first time and he was seen emotionally and the crowd gave him a big shout out.

“This is a great group of players to practice,” Boston coach Jim Montgomery said. “They didn’t give up, they didn’t stop playing, they didn’t lose faith. Down 3-0, we didn’t start the season, it wasn’t. us.”

“Honestly, I thought he was going to the blocker,” Thompson said. “Then it was, last second, I was able to put my hand up. It was great to be able to make those saves, and I was in the game.
Cotter gave the Golden Knights a 1-0 lead at 1:36 of the first period. William Karlsson fed Cotter into the slot behind the net. It was Cotter’s first point in 11 games (Nov. 12).
“Those games in a row without a score are not allowed,” Cotter said. “I mean, it’s going to happen; it’s my first year. But if I play my game, I’m sure I can get points, whether it’s another tip-in or a battle up front. “

Cotter, who played on Vegas’ top line with Jack Eichel with a lower-body injury, made it 3-0 just 51 seconds into the second period, picking up a shorthanded pass from Stone Face and cut to the top slot.
“Playing with those two (Chandler Stephenson and Stone), it’s very easy to get opportunities, and I’ve made some money on a few things,” Cotter said.
Cut it to 3-1 at 13:46 after tapping in a centering pass from Patrice Bergeron.
Pastrnak made it 3-2 with 25 seconds left in the second, picking up a loose puck on the wall and curling it into the left-hand circle.
“It’s hard to swallow,” Pastrnak said. “Our whole team had a great fight, and at the end of the day, it was a good place.”

Reilly Smith scored the only goal of shooting in the fifth round.
“They were consistent tonight,” Cassidy said. “You have a lead, you want to protect it, but I think there were some situations tonight. We are at the end of the road trip, there is some fatigue in our team. … [We had] manage and manage our emotions and get back in the game.”
WOULD LIKE: It was the Golden Knights 400th game since entering the NHL at the start of the 2017-18 season (235-132-33). Their 235 wins are the most by a franchise through their first 400 games in NHL history, surpassing the original Ottawa Senators (223 in 1917)… The Bruins have won 21 right on April 16 of last season. They won each of their three home games in the Stanley Cup Playoffs against the Carolina Hurricanes. … Marchand extended his scoring streak to seven games (10 points; three goals, seven assists).
