Ford is one of the most famous and well-known automakers in the world, but Ford is not known for reliability. But while there are many unreliable Ford models, the American automaker has also produced some cars that are more reliable than others. Here’s a look at the three most reliable Ford models of today.
Ford is not a reliable brand in general
Consumer Reports gets its reliability data from regular consumers. Every year, hundreds of thousands of drivers answer questions about their car and any issues their car has. That data will be analyzed and converted into a reliability score by Consumer Reports. With reliability scores in hand, “brands are ranked by average predicted reliability, based on CR member surveys.”
This year Ford owners did not rate their cars highly in terms of reliability, as Ford is one of the least reliable brands. Ford was ranked 18th out of 24 brands, and the Detroit-based automaker actually fell four spots from last year. The good news is that the Chevy was ranked worse than the Ford, as it came in 20th place.
There are a lot of unreliable cars in Ford’s lineup, and ultimately they’re the reason the automaker’s score is so poor. However, there are some bright spots, three to be exact. Here’s a look at the three most reliable Ford models of today.
The Ford Maverick and the Ford Maverick Hybrid are very reliable
Two of Ford’s most reliable models are practically the same car, and they are the Maverick and the Maverick Hybrid. Unlike most other hybrid cars though, the Maverick Hybrid is actually the standard truck version.
The Maverick Hybrid starts with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that works with an electric motor to get 191 hp. The Maverick Hybrid costs about $21,000, while the gas-powered engine option costs an extra $1,000.
The gas-powered Maverick, meanwhile, comes with a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder that makes 250 hp. With the hybrid powertrain, this Ford truck gets 42 mpg in the city and 33 mpg on the highways, for 38 mpg combined. The gas-powered engine has worse fuel economy of 23 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the highways, for 27 mpg combined.
That said, the gas-powered option will allow the Maverick to tow more. The hybrid version has a max towing capacity of 2,000 pounds, while a properly equipped gas-powered Maverick can tow up to 4,000 pounds. And according to JD Power, this Ford truck is not only a reliable vehicle, but it should also have good resale value.
The Ford Edge is another reliable option, but there is some bad news
The Edge is Ford’s other reliable model, and it’s a solid vehicle all around. JD Power writes that its driving experience is as good as its reliability. This mid-size Ford SUV has two engine options, and it starts with a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder that gets 250 hp. Car buyers who want more power can upgrade that engine to a 2.7-liter twin-turbocharged V6, and that gets 335 hp.
The standard engine gets 21 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highways, for 23 mpg combined. The Edge has a spacious and comfortable interior, and it has a max cargo capacity of around 73.4 cu. ft. Furthermore, Ford recently upgraded the SUV’s infotainment system, and it now has a 12-inch vertical touch screen as standard.
However, unfortunately, consumers are not convinced by these details. That’s why Ford canceled the next-generation Edge, and the SUV will end in the 2023 model year.
