A quick reminder to start this week. Another week of fast women with three breaking 17 minutes to make our podium. Rachel McGuinness of the Crosby crew continued a year of truly break-out performances with a 16:32 parkrun PB at Pegwell Bay. McGuinness went from a 3:06 to a 2:42 marathoner (and then a 2:34:33 marathoner in Valencia a few weeks ago) at the Melbourne Marathon on 12th December 2021. It’s exciting to see what 2023 holds for the rising star.

The fastest chap at Cardiff Parkrun this Saturday was Dafydd Jay. It was “only” 15:20 for the top spot, slower than usual for this list, but almost a minute’s parkrun best for the Welsh U23 athlete. This is only the second event for Jay in 2022, bringing parkrun along with others, but this flying 15:20 could mean we hope to see some cross country in the near future too!

Burn-up at Cardiff:

Back to Cardiff again for the ladies with Olivia Sim and Hannah Robinson in second and third just seven seconds apart. Tsim was first over the line in 16:52, with Robinson just back in 16:59. It comes shortly after Tsim ran a half marathon PB of 73:38 in Copenhagen in September and Robinson also ran 76:21 in Cardiff in March.

It was Luke Birdseye who was the second fastest male at Black Park Parkrun. Portraying himself as the captain of the ship, the middle distance runner who excels on cross country has a new parkrun of 15:32, equaling his 5k best on the road.

At Hove Promenade it was everyone’s favorite footballer/marathoner James Westlake. The England international marathoner, who Hassocks Football Club announced as their ‘new first team head coach’ at the start of the year, ran 15:45 this weekend in a packed year for parkrun.

The fastest course?

Sometimes when you write down the rankings you get a sense of which course has the most features and Cardiff parkrun once again rose to the top this week with some excellent performances.
