A 16-year-old girl has died after taking drugs at a Devon nightclub, police said. Authorities said a boy of the same age was arrested on suspicion of supplying an unknown substance – believed to be a Class A drug such as ecstasy or LSD – in pill form.
Officers were called to the nightclub in Exeter by paramedics at around 12.30am on Saturday due to concerns about the girl, who was taken to the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital before she died.
The force said a number of teenagers were believed to have taken pills containing unknown substances, and officers appealed for anyone affected to come forward.
A 16-year-old boy from the Exmouth area was arrested on suspicion of being involved in the supply of a class A drug and taken into custody for questioning.
DCI Lee Nattrass said: “We have already identified a number of teenagers who have reported taking drugs, but we would urge anyone else who feels unwell to seek medical help and contact us.
“We have seen time and again that these substances can kill and we have another tragic case on our hands.

“You don’t know what they contain and you don’t know what your reaction might be – it could be fatal. I urge anyone thinking of taking drugs to think twice and reconsider.
The arrested boy was still in custody on Saturday afternoon.
