Tata Power announced on Friday that it will develop about 10,000 MW of renewable energy capacity, primarily solar, over the next five years in Rajasthan.
“Tata Power plans to have a renewable energy portfolio of 10,000 MW in Rajasthan over the next five years,” a company statement said.
At the Invest Rajasthan Summit held in Jaipur, it said it plans to develop up to 8,000 MW of utility-scale projects, 1,000 MW of rooftop solar and 1,50,000 solar pumps in the next five years in the state.
Tata Power, along with its wholly owned subsidiary Tata Power Solar, will expand its presence in Rajasthan to generate clean energy through solar energy.
The company employs more than 4,500 people in the state, and its expansion projects will create more than 6,000-8,000 jobs in the next five years.
“Both in terms of potential and what has been done so far, Rajasthan has emerged as a model for green energy generation through solar energy. I am delighted to be here at the Invest Rajasthan Summit,” said Dr. Praveer Sinha, CEO & MD, Tata Power.
“With its existing strong footprint in the state, Tata Power is fully prepared to make Rajasthan future-ready and realize its full potential and become the green energy house of the country. We will continue to build all three businesses – EPC, solar pumps and solar rooftops – for the benefit of farmers, industrialists and the common people of this border state,” he added.
Currently, Tata Power has a production capacity of 4,939 MWp. So far, Tata Power has commissioned 2,066 MW of generating capacity in Rajasthan and about 2,873 MW of solar projects are under construction. Construction, which will be completed in the next 12-24 months.
TP Ajmer Distribution Ltd, a service unit of Tata Power, has completed 5 years of operations and has improved the consumer experience in Ajmer.
Tata Power has ensured safe and reliable supply in Ajmer and also achieved a reduction in losses from AT&C (combined technical and commercial) from 22 percent to 9 percent.
The company is looking for opportunities to distribute electricity in other cities of the state under Public Private Partnership (PPP) and to serve the citizens of Rajasthan with quality power supply.
Regarding solar pumps, Tata Power plans to install around 1,50,000 pumps in the next five years in the state.
So far, the company has installed nearly 21,600 solar pumps in Jaipur, Hanumangarh, Ganganagar, Jalore and Bikaner.
Tata Power through its rooftop services has a cumulative installed capacity of 65 MW in Rajasthan.
The company has worked extensively for industrial belts like marble, granite and stone crushing etc. in Rajasthan located in regions like Ajmer, Sirohi, Rajsamand, Jalore and Makrana.
Through various rooftop offerings, Tata Power has installed over 20 MW of rooftops for these industries. These installations have resulted in cumulative savings of approx. ₹20 million per year for customers.
Tata Power is also working to establish a robust EV charging infrastructure in the state to enable a faster transition to electric mobility. The company has installed more than 1,100 home chargers and 100 public chargers in Rajasthan.
In the next few years, Tata Motors plans to install 10,000 public EV charging points in the state. .
