Tata Power will develop a 7 MW rooftop solar project for self-consumption by Tata Motors’ manufacturing plant at Pantnagar in Uttarakhand. Recently, two companies signed a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) for this captive solar project.

“In total, this installation is expected to produce 215 million units of electricity, can reduce emissions 1.7 million tons of carbon. It is equivalent to planting 2.72 million teak trees in a lifetime,” said Tata Pralan.

Tata Power is working closely with Tata Motors to install solar roof projects at some of their plants in India. To date, 45 MW of solar rooftops have been installed across Tata Motors’ passenger car and commercial vehicle plants. In Pune, Pantnagar, Jamshedpur, and Dharwar.

Tata Motors, as a signatory to RE100, is committed to using 100% renewable energy in its operations. In 2021-22, across all plants in India, the company generated 92.39 million kilowatt hours of renewable electricity for production operations, which is equivalent to 19.4% of total energy consumption.

Tata Power’s rooftop solar portfolio includes one of the world’s largest rooftops (16 MW) at a single site at Radhasoami Satsang Beas, Amritsar; 2.67 MW Cochin International Airport; 820.8 kWp solar powered cricket stadium in Mumbai; and a 120 kW vertical solar farm at Dell Technologies in Bengaluru.
