Mumbai, India, October 3, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — Tata Power, in their first ‘Biodiversity Bill‘, held on September 30, reinforced its commitment to the conservation of ecosystems across renewable sites spread across 9 states.

Focusing on grassland ecosystem management across its facilities, Tata Power will follow a three-pronged conservation approach focusing on clean energy production, while maintaining ecological balance and contributing to sustainable livelihoods.

The initiative was announced based on a first-of-its-kind study commissioned by Tata Power in collaboration with the Bharati Vidyapeeth Institute for Environmental Education and Research BVIEER (BVIEER), Mortar. The study, piloted in Neemuch, Madhya Pradesh, closely assessed biological reserves with renewable potential, suggested structural management and conservation initiatives.

The initiative was announced at ‘Biodiversity Bill‘, which the company hosts to bring together influential leaders from Indian companies and the conservation domain to share views on maintaining the balance of life on Earth and discuss actions that can lead to the coexistence of man and nature. The meeting brought together experts such as Mr. Jamshyd Godrej, Chairman, Godrej & Boyce, Flagship Company of the Godrej Group; Miss. Anjali Bansal, Independent Board Director, Tata Power and Founder and Chairman of Avaana Group; Mr. Nikunja Bihari Dhal, Principal Secretary, Ministry of Energy, Govt. of Odisha; Mr. Kavinder Singh, MD & CEO, Mahindra Holidays and current President of India Business & Biodiversity Initiative (IBBI); Mr. Manish Dabkara – International Carbon Market Leader, CMD & CEO at EKIESL; Dr. Arpit Deomurari, Lead Product, Sustain Technologies, Birder, Conservation Specialist, and Spatial Ecologist and multi-Grammy Award winning Indian music composer and Dr. Ricky Kej.

Tata Power has also initiated biodiversity conservation initiatives in Odisha where Discoms are catering to a consumer base of over 90 lakhs. The company works with the Govt of Odisha to protect and conserve elephant movement corridors across the forests of Angul, Dhenkanal, Cuttack, Khorda, Nayagarh, Mayur Bhanj, Keonjhar, Ganjam, and Sambalpur. Together with the government, the company is making safe corridors for pachyderms by covering bare conductors, raising the height of electrical installations, and placing interposing poles in both the HT and LT networks to increase ground clearance for the safety of elephants passing through. .
