So, it’s a pretty confusing situation overall. The strange noise I mentioned in my previous post was diagnosed by Fortune Ford Tolichowki as a failing power steering pump. Furthermore, another sound, somewhat like a rattle, recently appeared from the front of the passenger cabin (about five days before the time of writing). It’s strange, because it reminded me of the time before the suspension was replaced, but to a lesser degree. This occurred over rumble strips and unevenly leveled surfaces.
Fortune Ford also said that some parts of the rear suspension needed to be replaced. That was a red flag, since almost the entire suspension (front and rear) was replaced about a year ago. Furthermore, the power steering pump is said to cost more than 30000 rupees, but due to Ford’s release, it will be difficult or impossible to get.
None of this added up, as there were absolutely no abnormalities in steering feel or behavior at any speed. No noises while turning the steering wheel, no creaking or humming sounds on cold starts and no liquid puddles under the car. The effort required to spin it is normal, as is the way it scales with speed. As for the secondary noise, I am very concerned, as that could mean that the replacement suspension is of poor quality, or that driving over Hyderabad’s rumble strips has seriously damaged the suspension. But, upon giving it a little more thought, I realized that something seems off about suspension behavior in general. Stability is excellent as usual, so cornering is a breeze.
So, we decided to get a second opinion on this, and took the car to an independent garage. Unfortunately, we were unable to reproduce the noise! The car was still on the lift and the underbody was carefully inspected, especially around the front wheels. To my untrained eye, nothing looked broken, something the mechanic later confirmed. On the contrary, the suspension is said to be in good condition. Therefore, a failed suspension is completely excluded as the cause of the secondary noise.
As for the first noise, a detailed description of it led to a tentative placing of blame on the brakes; something fortune ford also did during service and claimed to have fixed. The power steering pump has been completely ruled out as a cause. The steering wheel can be locked in the lock while stationary without any noise and vibrations. As for the brakes, the wheels spin freely when turned by hand, and careful testing of the braking system proved fruitless. The car is certified to be in perfect mechanical condition.
However, the same noises still occur. What could cause this? The first noise stopped me, and I could barely make out the second coming from the front of the passenger cabin. It can be as benign as a dashboard rattle or as serious as a major mechanical part giving out.
Anyone experienced this? And does anyone know of competent independent garages that can diagnose and deal with discontinued Fords? Help would be greatly appreciated.
