The NSE Nifty50 ended 82.25 points lower at 18560.5, while the 30-share BSE Sensex closed down 215.68 points at 62410.68.
Asian Paints (up 2.05%), Hindustan Unilever (up 1.99%), Bharat Petroleum Corporation (up 1.77%), Larsen & Toubro (up 1.46%), Axis Bank (up 1.11%), ITC (up 0.83%), Mahindra & Mahindra (up 0.28%), TATA Consumer Products (up 0.21%) and Bharti Airtel (up 0.08%) stood among the top gainers in the Nifty series.
On the other hand, NTPC (down 1.91%), SBI Life (down 1.79%), Bajaj Finserv (down 1.75%), IndusInd Bank (down 1.64%), Tata Motors (down 1.64%), Bajaj Auto (down 1.63%), Tata Steel (down 1.55%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries (down 1.53%), Reliance Industries (down 1.48%) and Hero MotoCorp (down 1.4%) closed in the red.
