Jaylan Ford had a great period in history at linebacker. Apparently not all voters in all conferences noticed.
Ford was not voted the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year for the 2022 season. Great linebackers are at the top of many statistical categories, as we noted earlier this week.
The first-year starter finished second in the conference in tackles (108), second in interceptions (4) and first in forced fumbles (3). His stellar performance didn’t distract Big 12 coaches from Felix Anudike-Uzomah’s 7.5 sacks.
For context, Barryn Sorrell had 5.5 sacks and wasn’t on the first or second team, another snub in its own right. This is another one of many times Texas players don’t get the credit they deserve.
As you can imagine, the news caused a stir on social media. Here’s how those watching the team took the news.
What else could Ford have done?
Jaylan Ford wasn’t even a unanimous All First Team LB despite having one of the best statistical seasons in the big 12 in the last 2 decades. Hopefully Sark will be really small in his votes next year. Just burn everything on random players.

A close call
Jaylan Ford has…
57 SOLO Tackles (31 more than DPOY)
52 AST Tackles (39 more than DPOY)
109 TOT Tackles (70 more than DPOY)
4 interceptions (4 more than DPOY)
3 FORCED FUMB (1 more than DPOY)
2 RECOV FUMB (2 more than DPOY)I don’t like it. #ThisIsTexas #HookEm 🤘🏽 https://t.co/R8GiBR0QPg

Don’t confuse them with facts
So you tell me @Big12Conference that a player with 70 more combined tackles, one more TDL, 4 more INTs, one more PBU, 1 forced fumble, and two more fumble recoveries (Jaylan Ford) is ineligible for DPOY than Felix Anudike – Uzomah?

Should have been copied and pasted from the preseason
Want to know the reason Big 12 coaches voted Kansas State DE Felix Anudike-Uzomah Big 12 DPOY over Texas LB Jaylan Ford. Anuduke-Uzomah had 7.5 sacks to lead the Big 12, but Ford had more TFLs (10), forced one more fumble, had a 4-0 advantage in INTs.

If you have to start with his preseason prediction…
K-State DE Felix Anudike-Uzomah was the preseason pick for DPOY so he’s a legit stud. But 2.5 of his Big 12-best 7.5 sacks came in non-conference play and 3 more against Tech. Jaylan Ford won his 3 DPOW awards after Big 12 games and was top-5 in tackles and picks. #HookEm pic.twitter.com/AXzId4kgn0

While you’re saying sorry
Here’s what gets me the most.
If someone other than Jaylan Ford were to win Big 12 DPOY – it would be Texas Tech LB Tyree Wilson.Wilson: 61 tackles, 14 TFL, 7 sacks, 1 FF, 1 FR in 10 games
Anudike-Uzomah: 39 tackles, 10 TFL, 7.5 sacks, 2 FF in 12 games
all of you. https://t.co/B39nm5FB2m

Too many player of the week awards have been won
Come on, Felix was consistently dominant, had 4 INTs, and won the most DPOW with 3 times… oops sorry read the wrong stats Jaylan Ford

Can Bijan accommodate Doak Walker for the SEC?
Lol Big 12 just snubbed Bijan and Jaylan. They had a personal vendetta ever since we announced that we were going to the SEC. But when Bijan wins Doak, they are the first to celebrate. Great conference @Big12Conference
