The payment was supposed to be made by Tuesday, according to the order of the court.
The DMRC declined to comment, saying the matter was sub judice.
The Delhi HC, in its latest order dated September 6, directed DMRC to pay the entire arbitration award of Rs 4,500 crore to DAMEPL within four weeks. The court will now hear the case on Monday, October 10.
This arbitration award is based on the 2008 agreement between DMRC and DAMEPL for the development and management of the Delhi Metro Orange Line. DAMEPL was supposed to operate the line for 30 years, but served a termination notice to DMRC, citing issues related to the financial viability of the project, in October 2012.
The dispute reached an arbitral tribunal which ruled in favor of DAMEPL in May 2017, ordering DMRC to pay ₹2,950 crore as compensation along with interest.
DAMEPL, however, sought compensation of around Rs 4,500 crore, claiming that it should get interest and late payment penalty under the pact with DMRC.
In September 2021, the Board of Directors confirmed the higher arbitration award. DAMEPL then moved the Delhi HC, seeking to direct the DMRC to comply with the apex court’s order.
