When do you know you’re in control?
CB: I don’t know if Eric went through the same thing, but there’s this period at the end, where people are tempted to kick you out of the office, because what you’re going to do is cause all the problems. EW: I mean, it is and it isn’t. I’m still terrible and got into the engine. I was like, “Oh man, we forgot to put this glow on Freya’s sword during all these scenes.” I had to like, kind of know that I wasn’t just a guy on the content creation team anymore. I think I’ve played the game probably ten times since April, and on every different setting we have.
CB: I would like to point out that when I directed Lord of War 2, in the 1800s, I did a similar thing. And it was Eric yelling at me to stop animating and doing things in the game.
EW: However, here is the difference. I’m still good at what I do. And he wasn’t good at what he was doing.

EW: Your animation skills were pretty rusty, my design skills are still pretty sharp.

EW: I don’t think our working relationship has changed at all. We have always been like two sides of a coin. It’s really creative; He is like a child actor, animator, storyteller. I’m a college dropout who didn’t finish my science major and I have an engineering brain. I have no idea about anything creative. We offset each other perfectly. We were very honest in approach and I think that has always been our thing. Until possibly hurt feelings.
CB: The only reason things worked for me [directing God of War 2018] It’s that people were hands-off, and I wanted to do the same for Eric. It was a unique challenge for me not to interfere or interfere. But an important part of being able to have a clear vision is being able to do these constant check-ins.
