LONDON, Dec 5 (Reuters) – Prince Harry said Britain’s royal family regularly leaked stories about each other, calling it “a dirty game” in a new trailer released on Monday for a much-anticipated Netflix documentary series about him and his wife Meghan. .
The first three episodes of the series will be available on Thursday, the streaming service said, amid widespread speculation about what the couple, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, will say about other royals.
Since Harry and Meghan stepped down from royal duties and moved to California two years ago, they have been sharply critical of the British monarchy and accused of racism.
The prince has suggested in interviews that he now rarely speaks to the rest of the family, particularly his father, King Charles, and older brother, heir to the throne Prince William.
“No one knows the whole truth,” Harry says in the trailer. “We know the whole truth.”
In the short clip, Harry referred to people working for the royal families passing information on each other to reporters, an issue he has previously spoken about.
“There’s a family hierarchy. You know there’s leaking, but there’s also the planting of stories,” he says. “It’s a dirty game.”
A voice on the trailer, which appears to be Harry’s, also refers to the “pain and suffering of the women who marry into this institution”, while showing images of Harry’s late mother Diana and his sister-in-law Kate, calling it “a feeding frenzy”. “
The last time Harry and Meghan opened up about their relationships with other royals, in an interview with Oprah Winfrey in March 2021, plunged the institution into its biggest crisis in recent times.
After Winfrey’s interview, Buckingham Palace promised to address the issues they seriously raised, noting that “some recollections may differ.” William also said a few days later: “We’re not a very racist family.”
Many Sunday newspapers in Britain ran stories about the Netflix series, with some anonymous sources accusing Windsor of declaring war.
The release of the first trailer last week coincided with William and his wife Kate’s first trip to the United States in eight years. The visit was also overshadowed by a race row involving William’s 83-year-old godmother, which saw her step down from her honorary role in the royal family.
The royals will now brace for more revelations from Harry and Meghan when the series airs this week.
“It’s really hard to look back on it now and go ‘What on earth happened?'” Harry says in the trailer, in an apparent reference to his and Meghan’s experience in the royal family.
