The Panchkula Municipal Corporation (MC) on Tuesday filed a complaint against three telecom companies for reconnecting its mobile phone lines that were disconnected due to non-payment of dues.
MC Commissioner Virender Lather said, “The complaint has been filed against three companies – Telesonic, Connect and One-fiber. They have been served several notices asking them to submit their obligations or remove their illegal infrastructure.”
In February, the MC disconnected the optical cables of seven companies in Sector 21 for non-payment of mobile license and tower fees. These firms include Connect, Net-plus, One-fiber, BSNL, Reliance Jio, Telesonic and Quadrant Televentures Limited.
“A complaint was earlier lodged against Reliance Jio for reconnecting lines without paying fees or seeking permission from the corporation. If these companies continue with illegal connections, their public license will be revoked,” Later said.
He appealed to the public to ensure that the company has the proper permission from the MC before going online.
MC Assistant Engineer Manoj Ahlawat, who was tasked with ensuring that the companies clear their dues on time, said, “As per the city local bodies policy 2019, the charges are fixed for rent, meters and pit digging. Each company must apply for a license and pay an annual fee. They have to renew it by submitting annual fees as per the policy.”
He said three companies – Reliance Jio, Connect and Airtel – owed money to the MC ₹15 million dues in the last two years. “We gave them notices for two months, but they did not pay attention.” Therefore, we severed their cables in sectors 4, 11, 15 and 14 on November 30,” the official said. On the same day, two cell towers of Reliance Jio were sealed in sectors 4 and 11.
There are 328 cell towers in the city and ₹6.8 million liabilities were collected for 194 of them.
