Oppo has confirmed that its upcoming Find X will be among the first phones to arrive at the competition’s new Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 platform, which is set to power one of the best phones of 2023.
During the Snapdragon Summit 2022 event, Oppo said that the main advancement provided by the new chip is “a jump in videos, games, and interactive experiences.” Chief among them is ray tracing in Android games.
The next generation Find X will arrive with capabilities similar to the current crop of gaming consoles and high-end PC gaming rigs. In short, it promises a new era of realism for Android gaming.

Market Analysis
In a press release announcing the Gen 2 for the upcoming Find X, the smartphone maker Oppo and Qualcomm said that they are collaborating on the development of the next drivers, which will enable the hardware-based ray-tracing.
“Running on a device powered by Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 Mobile Platform, with many ray tracing effects turned on, high-end mobile games can run at a stable 60 FPS while providing life as soft shadows and reflections for maximum visibility. Compared to the software of the previous generation alone, the performance of ray tracing is increased by a factor of 5 and reduces the CPU performance by 90%, said the company. “These advances will allow the mobile game industry to abandon its reliance on the use of simulation software to achieve ray tracing results, and instead of bringing high-quality, ultra-realistic lighting to great gaming experiences on mobile devices.”
Oppo said that it is the only manufacturer to show this technology at the Snapdragon Summit, but other Android manufacturers will be better if the developers decide to add ray tracing.
Elsewhere, Oppo promises to significantly improve AI capabilities. Worked with Qualcomm and Google to integrate Google Cloud Vertex AI NAS technology. It is a first for smartphones. “The new solution will increase the energy efficiency and latency of AI processing in mobile devices,” said Oppo.
“OPPO’s implementation achieves a 27% reduction in the power of the target detection algorithm and a 40% reduction in computing latency. Together, these improvements can be trained in AI models with better energy efficiency and machine interaction in a shorter period of time,” the release continued.
It is not clear when the Oppo Find X will arrive, but it should be sometime in the coming months if the company plans to be among the first to launch the Gen 2.
