Mike Mastalir is the proud owner of this beefy ’59 T-Bird. Along with good looks this car was built to run fast back in 1959.
Mike also added some history behind Thunderbird Specials…
“Lost in history, is the fact that the inaugural 1959 Daytona 500 was won by a 1959 Thunderbird, until overturned after a close photo finish review, awarding the win to Lee Petty. More than four inches more lower than the competition, lightweight unit body construction, and short 113″ wheelbase are too handling for the competition. Nascar banned it for the aforementioned reasons. This is one of 675 3:70 gear, 300 horse Thunderbird Specials built 62 years ago, the car that made Holman and Moody famous.”
