T4 Group concluded a contract for the delivery of data center infrastructure to IT service provider NTT New Zealand.
With data centers in Whangarei, Auckland and a new Tier 4 facility under construction in Southland, T4 provides access to data centers it says are green, reliable, secure and economically viable.
All of T4’s data centers are colocation facilities, providing customers with rack space to store and run their own hardware. The T4 team then monitors them to ensure 100 percent effective uptime is achieved.
“Partnering with NTT is an exciting step in the right direction for the business as both companies share similar views and goals when it comes to the environment and ensuring sustainability is at the forefront of our business,” said T4 Group Director David Simpson.
T4 Group was founded in 2021 and has continued to acquire Northland-based Advanced Data Centers (ADCs).
The design of the company’s Southland data center will maximize cool natural air flow to significantly reduce reliance on powered cooling systems, while warm air will be extracted and used by a large local business.
Combined with the use of hydropower, it will also be the country’s first carbon-free data center, the company said.
Most data centers in New Zealand currently rely on coal as a secondary energy source, with some companies using different compensation methods, T4 said.
“We can take advantage of the region’s unique strengths, such as access to hydropower, to develop a truly green and sustainable community asset,” Simpson said.
NTT New Zealand CEO Simon Gillespie said the company is highly aligned with T4 Group in its focus on sustainability and committed to partnering to serve collective customers and communities.
“We’re really excited to be partnering with NTT to deliver their data center infrastructure at the highest level of capability and security in New Zealand – nobody else can match what we offer,” said T4 Group Chief Technology Officer Jason Porter.
“We are committed to reducing the carbon footprint of our business, and part of that requires constantly reviewing our operations and implementing improvements.”
T4 Group continues to expand its regional offering with 500 rack spaces available in its Tier 3 certified data center in Auckland.
Last year, NTT NZ signed a three-year cloud service partnership with Umbrellar.
