![Nicholas Safir reappointed as AHDB chairman

Nicholas Safir has been reappointed as Chairman of the Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board (AHDB) for a 12-month term. The reappointment will be from 1 April 2023 to 31 March 2024.
Appointments to AHDB’s board are made by Defra Ministers, with the approval of ministers from the Scottish Government, the Welsh Government and the Northern Ireland Executive.
AHDB Chairman, Nicholas Safir said:
“I am delighted to extend my term as Chair of the AHDB at this defining time for UK agriculture. AHDB has an important role to play in helping our levy payers meet the challenges ahead. The organization is undergoing a radical period of transformation, including providing better value and more targeted services, which levy payers have highlighted as priorities.
“The recent introduction of new strategies for the beef and lamb, grains and oilseeds, dairy and pork sectors underpins our commitment to listen and deliver. I look forward to leading the next phase of the journey to meet the challenges and help ratepayers take advantage of the opportunities that lie ahead.”
AHDB Chief Executive, Tim Rycroft said:
“Nicholas’ agricultural and commercial experience has been invaluable in helping me restructure and refocus AHDB to deliver better value. The AHDB team and I look forward to continuing to work with him on the next phase of that journey.”
The re-appointment has been made in accordance with the Ministerial Governance Code on Public Appointments published by the Cabinet Office. All appointments are made on merit and political activity plays no part in the selection process. Requirement to disclose political activity (if significant) of appointees. Nicholas has declared that he has not participated in any significant political activity in the past five years.

Nicholas has a successful record of chairing industry and government bodies in the food and agriculture sectors. These include Chairman of the Central Council for Agricultural and Horticultural Co-operation, Founding Chairman of Food Britain, Chairman of the Fresh Produce Consortium and Chairman of the Agricultural Forum.
