Members of the Delaware County Council, employees of Harrah’s, and Flight Entertainment addressed the crowd before the official opening of the new ice rink at Harrah’s.
Gambling and ice skating may seem like an odd combination, but the two now share some common space in Chester. Flight on Ice opened a new outdoor rink in front of Harrah’s Tuesday night entrance. The ribbon-cutting ceremony was presented by Harrah’s, the Delaware County Council, and Flight on Ice, a division of Media-based Flight Entertainment.
DelCo River Rink at Harrah’s Philadelphia is a full-size, outdoor rink, 60 feet by 100 feet with a heated indoor Ice Garden Bar and other amenities including free onsite parking, music, and a calendar of family-friendly events . Skate tickets are $5 plus tax and skate rentals are $12 plus tax.
Delaware County Council Vice Chair Elaine Paul Schaefer said she and the other four County Council members are “incredibly excited to be a part of this really exciting addition to this region of our county.” Schaefer added that the county, Flight Entertainment, and Harrah’s have partnered on the project.
“This new rink will offer throughout the winter season, until the end of February, an opportunity for all kinds of residents to enjoy it,” he said. “Families can come out and skate with their families; it’s a great place for a date, for couples, and it’s a great place to go out with your friends. And Delaware County residents can get discounted tickets and skate rentals.
Schaefer added that there will be special community days throughout the season where county and non-profit organizations can skate for free.
“We, at the County Council, are proud to invest in this community and this whole waterfront area,” he said.
This is the fourth rink in the Flight on Ice area and two more will open shortly.
Even Phang, the Philadelphia Union mascot, made a splash at the new DelCo River Rink at Harrah’s Philadelphia.
