More private 5G networks to go live within two quarters in India: Nokia’s Ricky Corker

Finnish telecom gear maker Nokia said India will see a private 5G network appear within the next two quarters and it is in talks with a number of enterprises in the country either through telecom operators or through system integration.

In an interaction with ET, Ricky Corker, Head of Customer Experience at Nokia said that momentum has started to build in India around private 5G networks. “This is an opportunity for us and our preference is to work through business operators since they We have a good relationship with them. They have an environment and a trusting relationship with many of these enterprises. ”

Corker said that private networks are a growing sector worldwide due to the use of 5G and will accelerate Business cards for telecom operators and enterprises in India.

Private networks, which are intended for non-public use, especially for large production complexes and enterprises, use cellular technology to create a dedicated network with integrated connections to a specific area. Infosys, Capgemini, GMR, Larsen & Toubro, Tata Communications, Tata Power and Tejas Networks are among more than 20 companies that have recently applied for direct allocation of 5G spectrum to set up private communications networks.

Separately, Indian telecom operators Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel are also looking to offer private 5G networks as a service to enterprises through the network slicing capabilities introduced by 5G technology.

“…the conversation is going in a big way in terms of understanding solutions…there are many global examples now. There are a number of networks that are already in use, we can take those learnings and bring them to India and basically show the enterprise customers the value of the network that we have already used,” he said.

Nokia said it has seen interest from sectors such as manufacturing, transportation and healthcare. Public health for private 5G networks. Corker said that factory automation will be one of the biggest uses of enterprise.

ET recently reported that Nokia is in talks with Adani Data Networks for setting up a private 5G network using mmwave spectrum, which was acquired during the 5G auction.

Corker did not respond directly to the talks with Adani Data Networks, but said, “…we are in touch with all the players in the Indian market. So let’s see how it goes.”
