Montez Ford spoke candidly about Street Profits losing to The Usos at WWE SummerSlam.
At WWE SummerSlam earlier this year, The Street Profits faced off against The Usos in an Undisputed Tag Team Championship match. The Usos were able to defeat the Street Profits in the match, seemingly ending the rivalry between the two teams for the time being.
After that match, Street Profits was active in WWE for about a month before going on the road due to Montez Ford’s calf injury. The duo would go on to return to the company on the November 28 edition of WWE Raw in a match against Alpha Academy.
Ford and Dawkins were guests on the December 7 edition of WWE’s The Bump. When asked about his mindset while recovering from injury, Montez gave a lengthy answer about how the group isn’t over their SummerSlam loss.
“I’m not going to sit here in The Bump studio and act like everything is fine and dandy. You know, we had a great comeback. [My] the frog splash is still intact, the athleticism is still intact, the passion is still there, but I can’t sit here and lie to you guys and say SummerSlam doesn’t bother me. I can’t sit here and act like it doesn’t bother me that every single day that I wake up and look in the mirror, that I failed on that stage, that we failed on that stage. This is something that bothers us to this day. So when the injury happened and all the rehabilitation, a completely different kind of focus and mode was going on. I’m not just going to improve athleticism, I’m gonna improve everything. The way I think, the way I eat, the way I behave, the energy, the people around me, everything will be whole. There won’t be any harm because I feel like there will be no more excuses when that time comes — and that time will come. But I can’t sit here and act like SummerSlam doesn’t bother us because it always does, it really does. It’s true, we go out there and we give the crowd what they deserve, what they need, what they love. But, of all the things we’ve done, nothing yet [won] the Undisputed Tag Team Championships and that’s something I’m not comfortable with. I’m not even trying to make this a dark segment, I’m just telling you how serious I am in the next months, years, or however long it takes to get that, to get that gold with my tag team partner . It’s going to happen, and I’ll tell you right here at The Bump Usos, if nobody else takes care of the job before we get there, we definitely will.”
Since SummerSlam, The Usos have defended their tag straps against teams like The Brawling Brutes, The New Day, and more.
Recently, The Usos were named as the top tag team of 2022 by Pro Wrestling Illustrated. To learn more, click here.
