SANTA CLARA, CA, December 8, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — Marvell Technology, Inc. (NASDAQ: MRVL ), a leader in semiconductor solutions for data infrastructure, today introduced Alaska® C X9340P, a new 5nm 1.6T Ethernet PHI with 100G I/O capability, with built-in media access control security (MACsec) and full support for Precision Time Protocol (PTP), for cloud data center and communication network applications. MACsec allows data center operators to enable hardware-based link layer security, and PTP enables Ethernet networks to support ultra-reliable, time-critical services. The X9340P and the previously announced Alaska C X93160 PHI together provide a pin-compatible, flexible platform for retiming, switching, encryption and timing for speeds up to 800GbE.
The X9340P is the latest Marvell product built on PAM4-based 112 Gbps SerDes technology with the highest performance and delivers 40% lower power per bit compared to PHI devices using 56Gbps PAM4-based SerDes technology. The Alaska C Ks9340P PHI incorporates IEEE 802.1AE 256-bit MACsec capability into the PHI, providing flexible encryption deployments while eliminating overhead and power costs by incorporating this functionality into the switch ASIC. Marvell supports the Switch Abstraction Interface (SAI) powered by the Open Compute Project (OCP) on the X9340P and X93160 devices to enable the independent control of network equipment elements required by leading cloud data center customers.
The new PHI also integrates PTP support for time-critical use cases in 5G and telecom applications. The strict timing requirements of 5G networks and the applications they serve drive the time accuracy that must be delivered by the networks that support these services. The inclusion of Class C PTP timestamping enables support for the sub-microsecond end-to-end clock synchronization accuracy required for 5G ultra-reliable low-latency communication (URLLC) services enabling critical use cases such as industrial automation.
