Bhubaneswar: Tata Power, one of India’s largest integrated power companies that also manages power distribution in Odisha in collaboration with the state government, while participating in the Make in Odisha conclave, announced its vision to transform Odisha into a clean energy hub through clean and. Green energy solutions and proposals.
The company has established its presence across the entire clean energy value chain in the state comprising of EV charging points, solar roofs, solar pumps, floating solar, water pipes and micros.
To promote clean mobility, Tata Power plans to install 1,000 charging points across the state in the next five years. It has already set up 50 EV charging points while an additional 97 charging points are under various stages of installation and commissioning. The company is currently facilitating the EV charging ecosystem through various initiatives such as charging stations on NH 16 which is an important part of the Golden Quadrilateral, a major tourism corridor and an inter-state highway connecting Odisha. Tata Power is also working with Bhubaneswar Smart City Limited (BSCL) to implement infra charging at multi-level parking and public facilities such as hospitals, universities, shopping malls, and at major city centers.
Tata Power is working towards the solarization of the agriculture sector in association with the state government. It has already installed more than 700 solar pumps, in addition to 1200 pairs of pumps for community drinking applications across the state. It plans to install 1,00,000 solar pumps over the next five years.
While speaking at the Make in Odisha Conclave 2022, Dr.Praveer Sinha, CEO & MD, Tata Power, said, “Tata Power is committed to ensure Udyog Ru Pragati by providing high quality and affordable power supply to create a conducive environment for industrial development. Our clean and green energy products and solutions in e-mobility, distributed generation, agriculture, and demand management will ensure the sustainable development of the state in all aspects.”
Considering Odisha’s huge potential in renewable energy management, Tata wants to participate in the growth of clean and renewable energy in the state.
Regarding Rooftop Solar Space, the company has a total installation capacity of 25 MW across the country, which is equivalent to 7.07 million tons, reducing CO2 emissions and planting 11.31 million trees. The company’s rooftop solar offering has been used by various industries which include cashew processing units, oil mills, handloom, steel and manufacturing industries et al. With better management of households, commercial and industrial institutions in the state to adopt solar systems on the roof and ground, there is an opportunity for the installation of about 1000 MW of solar on the roof of the state.
Nine districts of Odisha in the southwest region can become leaders in managing solar energy. Taking only 25% of the waste land available in these cities, about 44 GW of solar power plants can be installed.
In addition, floating solar power capacity is expected to be around 5000 MW across the various reservoirs of Odisha and Tata Power wants to utilize its expertise in setting up such plants.
Dr. Sinha hailed the Odisha government’s Renewable Energy Policy 2022, which was unveiled at the Make in Odisha conference today. Incentives under renewable energy policies such as electricity tax exemptions, wheeling charges, cross subsidy charges, state electricity transmission charges are very encouraging and will lead to strong implementation of clean and green energy solutions.
Tata Power also wants to use its expertise in operating Pumped Storage Power Stations (PSPS) to help meet the state’s peak energy needs and will work closely with OHPC for the development of Pumped Storage hydro projects.
The company is working on the electrification of remote villages, with the support of the Department of Energy and OERC, by establishing Microgrids. A technical feasibility study was conducted in several villages in Mayurbhanj to establish a Microgrid to transform It is a rural/ethnic economy.
To ensure sustainable energy consumption, Tata Power Discoms also offers Smart IoT solutions for residential, commercial and industrial customers. This proposal helps in load balancing in case of Rooftop Solar installation. In addition, the company also provides digital motion sensors and sensor-based LED lights, which help save about 80% of energy for industrial plants, warehouses, cold storage rooms, etc.
Apart from this, Tata Power has also changed the picture of electricity distribution in the state by promising Rs. 6000 crore capex investment in distribution business in next 5 years. To support the ease of doing business in the state, Tata Power Discoms has launched several initiatives for industrial consumers including MSMEs viz – integrated power system control center, cyclone resistant network, new connectivity through online media (Whatsapp and e-mail), missed calls and. Minimal documentation, mobile apps, GIS Mapping for accurate visualization of infrastructure for maintenance and network expansion and Smart Metering.
Discoms also provide options for adopting 100% renewable energy to the industrial sector. To provide customized energy solutions to industrial consumers, Discoms have also appointed customer relationship managers in key industrial belts.
Tata Power also creates job opportunities for local youth in operation, maintenance, and metering work of Discoms. Since the recent takeover of the Discoms in the state, around 2000 employment opportunities have been provided over and above the 11,000 employees working with the 4 Odisha Discoms. Through new investments and clean and green energy solutions and product offerings, this number may touch 5,000 in the next 5 years.
Through solutions to Discoms and green energy, Tata Power is determined to strengthen progress in Odisha and hopes to combine its efforts with the vision of Hon’ble Chief Minister Shri Naveen Patnaik for economic and social growth of the state.
Adhering to the ethos of social service in which it operates, Tata Power is focused on employment, employment, education, and essential services. The company has engaged women self-help groups under its Abha Shakti program for billing and data collection activities of Discoms at their local Gram Panchayats, empowering them socially and economically.
Vocational training centers have also been set up by Odisha Discoms for imparting necessary skills to the local youth and making them job ready. The company has also established women’s literacy centers and started mobile health shops in the state to support health care infrastructure in rural areas.
To promote the ethics of optimal use of energy, Club Enerji program has also been started by Odisha Discoms in schools. Tata Power has also initiated a biodiversity conservation initiative in Odisha. The company is working with the government. of Odisha to protect and conserve elephant movement corridors across forest areas.
