As we approach Human Rights Day on December 10, we want to highlight the fundamental role of democracy in promoting the protection and development of human rights.
We celebrate the freedoms enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and reaffirm the importance of all UN Member States upholding their commitments to free expression, peaceful assembly and elections, among others, as outlined in the Declaration.
We support and promote democratic governance as a set of values and principles to be followed for meaningful participation, equality, security and inclusive human and economic development.
We, as friends and partners of Bangladesh, look forward to further supporting its success, reaffirming the importance of a free, fair, inclusive and peaceful electoral process in the spirit of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
