Apple is releasing the latest version of iOS today, which is iOS 16.2. Which brings a handful of new features as well.
This is different, but similar to Google’s Pixel Feature Drops that appear every quarter. However, Apple includes this as part of the OS, instead of being limited to the Pixel.
With iOS 16.2, there are some great features available for iPhone and iPad users. That includes Advanced Data Protection for iCloud that was announced last week. There’s also the new Apple Music Sing feature, which turns Apple Music into a Karaoke app. That’s all very well, but it’s another matter how the Apple Music features relate to the entire system.
Of course, the main feature that most people are waiting for is the ability to hide your wallpaper when using Always on Display. Apple introduced AOD to its iPhone 14 Pro series this year for the first time. And they want to emulate Android. So the paper image appears in the AOD. However, it is very bright and many people think that the phone is locked. Not to mention it takes up a lot of battery usage. Now, in iOS 16.2, users can turn off the wallpaper and turn off notifications.
What’s new in iOS 16.2?
There are many new features in iOS 16.2 now. Working on the latest for iOS 16, from the first release. Apple TV has support for Live Activities. So you can follow along with games on the Dynamic Island on iPhone 14 Pro or the lockscreen. Game Center has SharePlay support here, so you can play with other people on a Facetime call.

iOS 16.2 currently runs on the iPhone, with iPadOS 16.2 running on the iPad. We should see the iOS 16.3 and iPadOS 16.3 betas launch later this week or early next week, before everyone leaves for the holidays.
