Jakarta, Dec 5 (IANS) Indonesia aims to develop a nuclear power plant in 2039 to achieve net zero emissions and support domestic energy needs, the Nuclear Energy Regulatory Agency (BAPETEN) said on Sunday.
The director of the Nuclear Installation and Material Control Agency, Haendra Subekti, said in a statement that Indonesia is currently looking for investors to help finance the construction of the plant to achieve the goal, Xinhua reported.
“We have created a rulebook on the safety of nuclear infrastructure, prepared the location for the plant and formulated the trial operation. All this is almost finished,” Subekti said, adding that the location of the nuclear power plant will not be affected by an earthquake. -prone areas.
“So far, there have been a few private companies that are ready to invest, but we expect more investors to come,” he said.
Indonesia’s plan to establish a nuclear power plant is stipulated by the government’s regulation on the operation of risky businesses. The plant aims to provide new and renewable energy for the Southeast Asian country so that it can reach its goal of zero emissions.
