India-based Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has received a contract from Rail Delivery Group (RDG) to build the UK’s Rail Data Marketplace (RDM).
Under the six-year contract, TCS will be responsible for the design, development, implementation and management of RDM in the UK.
The contract has also been extended–word option.
RDM will combine fragmented sources of rail data to create a digital service.
Last year, UK Rail Minister Chris Heaton-Harris announced the creation of the RDM to better coordinate government and industry to drive innovation and deliver new products and services.
RDM will include tools and frameworks to optimize the sharing of data and real-time information to passengers across the country.
It will also help facilitate data sharing across operational organisations, including the UK’s rail and non-rail transport and mobility networks.
Furthermore, this will help improve transparency and increase access to data for public and private organisations, in addition to enabling a UK-wide railway innovation ecosystem.
A controlled data exchange environment for TCS Dexam, Enterprise and their ecosystem partners will be used in the development of RDM.
Besides maintaining security, privacy and consent of data and its stakeholders, TCS Dexam will facilitate the democratization, monetization and commercialization of data.
Google’s Apigee platform will also be used by TCS to develop and manage APIs, which partner applications will use to connect to RDM.
TCS UK and Ireland Country Head: “We are delighted to be leading this strategic program with Rail Delivery Group.
“Built on TCS Dexam, the Rail Data Marketplace can not only provide data relevant to the rail industry but also present critical nearby data sources for passengers and operators and help deliver a better experience for users.”
