Harrison Ford and Ke Huy Quan took the internet by storm last September when they ran into each other at Disney’s D23 convention and took a photo. This moment marks a reunion 38 years ago, since the two actors starred opposite each other in Steven Spielberg’s 1984 adventure “Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom.” Quan’s role as Short Round marked his film debut. Ford recently told Uproxx that being reunited with Quan was a blessing.
“Oh yes. Yeah, it’s great to see him,” Ford said before praising Quan’s performance in “Everything Everywhere All at Once.”
“I had a chance to see the movie,” Ford said. “He is really bad in his movie. And I’m glad to see him…and what he is. I’m so happy for him. He is also a happy person.”
When Uproxx reporter Mike Ryan informed Ford that Quan “will probably get an Oscar nomination” for his role in “Everything Everywhere All at Once,” Ford responded, “And deservedly so! Deservedly— must.”
Quan has already won several big prizes this awards season for his performance in the A24-backed multiverse family drama. The Gotham Awards presented its supporting actor award to Quan, as did the New York Film Critics Circle and Los Angeles Film Critics Association. Quan was also nominated at the Golden Globes and Critics Choice Awards for his role.
Ford was attending D23 in September to promote “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny,” while Quan attended as a cast member of “Loki” Season 2. Quan told The New York Times that his heart skipped a beat when he is asked. if he wants to get back with Ford.
“I was thinking, ‘Of course! I haven’t seen him in 38 years,’” Quan said. “So I walked out and saw him about 15 feet away talking to Phoebe Waller-Bridge, they were there to promote ‘Indy 5.’ And as I got closer, my heart beat faster. I was thinking, ‘Will he recognize me? The last time he saw me, I was young.’”
“As I approached, he turned and pointed his finger at me, and he had that classic, famous, grumpy Harrison Ford look,” Quan continued. “I go, ‘Oh my gosh, maybe he thinks I’m a fan and he’ll tell me not to go near him.’ But he looked and pointed at me and said, ‘Are you Short Round?’ Immediately, I was transported back to 1984, when I was a little kid, and I said, ‘Yes, Indy.’ And he said, ‘Come here,’ and hugged me tight.”
“Everything Everywhere All at Once” is currently available to rent or own digitally.
