Harrison Ford Didn’t Watch Yellowstone To Prepare For 1923

 | Daily News Byte

1923 star Harrison Ford said he watched 1883 but not Yellowstone to prepare for his duty. Ford will star in the upcoming Yellowstone prequel 1923 with Helen Mirren, Timothy Dalton, and many others. Ford and Mirren will play Jacob and Cara Dutton – a new, resilient generation of the Dutton family tasked with keeping their homestead safe from threats four decades after the events of 1883. As the latest installment in the growing Yellowstone universe, 1923 will likely reveal connections to the original show Yellowstone, which is currently in its fifth season, and its predecessor, 1883.

While talking to Collider, Ford said that, while he appreciates the work that went into Yellowstone, he did not see its current storyline as relevant to his part in 1923. On the contrary, he admitted that he found it important to watch the entire prequel 1883, to better understand how Sheridan’s neo-Western expanded universe handles its spinoff and prequel narratives. Ford added 1883 is closer to 1923timeline because it takes place only 40 years after that series and almost a century before Yellowstone, making the portrayal of Jacob a priority for his preparation. Check out what the actor had to say below:

“I’m working and busy, and I don’t have much time to catch up, but I thought it was more important that I see all of 1883, which I did, because that’s the closest in time and story-wise to the developed elements of Yellowstone. Yellowstone , which takes place in contemporary times… I love the work Kevin does and I love the show, but 1883 is more important to me to focus on, and it was very helpful in helping me understand the way they tell stories.”

Why 1883 Was Important To Ford’s Preparation

Ford’s comments were essentially accurate since the events of 1883 quite a bit directly leads to 1923. The marketing for 1923 made clear the connection between the two prequels, with the voice of Elsa (Isabel May) narrating the first 1923 teaser. In addition, a trailer for 1923 revealed a shot of several graves on the Dutton family property, likely containing the remains of characters from the previous prequel show.

While Yellowstone took place within a hundred years afterwards 1883, the things that happened to the Dutton family (on their journey to what would become their home) will still be an important part of 1923. With the suffering they went through to reach their homestead fresh in the family’s minds, Ford and Mirren’s characters will likely have an unrelenting desire to keep their Montana property – unlike anything seen in past Yellowstone installments. Based on their titles, structures, historical settings, and darker themes, 1923 seems to have more in common with a craft level with 1883, making the two prequels seem more related to each other than they are Yellowstone.

Across 1883 serves as a useful tool to understand 1923, the shows are decades apart, which may help fill in the pieces about the Dutton family after that time. 1923 may also shed light on some family mysteries still related to Yellowstonecurrently, as if there is a missing generation within the Dutton family. Therefore, the new Yellowstone The spinoff may finally answer the question of whether the prequel is at all related to its sister series.

1923 premieres Sunday, December 18 on Paramount+.
